Senior AIADMK legislator A. Anbalagan has been appointed as the Pro tem Speaker of the 16th Puducherry Legislative Assembly.

 

The appointment was made by the Lieutenant Governor on the recommendation of the Chief Minister, according to a press release issued by the Legislative Assembly Secretariat.

 

Mr Anbalagan, who is also the Puducherry State Secretary of the AIADMK, was elected from the Oupalam Assembly constituency. After formally assuming charge as the Pro tem Speaker, he will administer the oath of office to the newly elected members of the Legislative Assembly.

 

The dates for convening the first session of the Assembly are yet to be announced.

 

Though the Chief Minister and two Ministers were sworn in on Wednesday, the NDA is yet to finalise the remaining three Cabinet berths as well as candidates for the posts of Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Government Whip.
