Prime Minister and Senior BJP leader Narendra Modi to launch election campaign in West Bengal from Cooch Behar today

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch his election campaign in West Bengal from Cooch Behar today. He is scheduled to address a rally of party workers and supporters at Rashmela Maidan.

The rally marks the beginning of the BJP’s intensified campaign in the state. The district’s nine assembly seats remain significant, with political activity continuing among major parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party and the All India Trinamool Congress.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, the BJP had won eight out of the nine seats in the district. However, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP leader and former Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nisith Pramanik faced a defeat.

Meanwhile, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of electoral rolls is underway in the state. Judicial officials are currently hearing appeals of adjudicated voters, a process scheduled to conclude on April 7. According to the latest information, the Election Commission of India has listed over 2.14 million valid voters in Cooch Behar district.

According to BJP sources, Mr Modi will address multiple election rallies in West Bengal in the coming days.
