President Trump holds talks with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani

US President Donald Trump held talks with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in capital Doha this evening. President Trump reached Doha today on the second leg of his three-Nation visit to West Asia after concluding his trip to Saudi Arabia. This is the first visit by a US President to Qatar in more than 20 years.
Earlier in the day, President Trump attended the summit of the United States and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. At the Summit, Mr Trump reaffirmed America’s strategic commitment and partnership with the region. On the sidelines of the summit, US President also met Syria’s interim President and former Islamist rebel leader Ahmed al-Sharaa. The meeting came a day after the US President announced the lifting of sanctions on Syria. During the meeting, President Trump urged the Syrian leader to join the Abraham Accords, a US-led initiative for West Asian nations to normalise relations with Israel. He also stated that in the future US will continue to add more countries to the accords. Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was present at the meeting while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan joined remotely.
President Trump reached Saudi Arabia yesterday. On the first day of his visit, the two countries signed a 142 billion dollar defence sales agreement as part of a Saudi Arabian commitment to invest 600 billion dollar in the United States.
From Qatar, US President will travel to the United Arab Emirates tomorrow.
