President Droupadi Murmu laid foundation stone and inaugurated various projects worth rupees one thousand three hundred eighty seven crore in a ceremony held at City Convention Centre in Imphal this evening. She arrived Imphal this afternoon and is on a two day visit to Manipur.
The President laid the foundation stones of fourteen projects amounting to rupees one thousand one hundred eighty crore and also inaugurated twelve projects worth rupees two hundred and seven crore. The projects which the President laid foundation stones and inaugurated cover a wide range of areas including health sector, education, road and highways, tribal development, agriculture, electricity, security and administrative sports, infrastructure, drinking water and others.
During her address, President Droupadi Murmu said that the projects which were inaugurated today will generate employment, improve infrastructure and accelerate economic activities. They reflect the Government’s commitment to inclusive development of Manipur and also empowerment of the people of the State.
Expressing sadness over the pain that the people of Manipur have gone through following the unfortunate violence, the President said that the Government stands with every affected family and assured that taking care of the concerns of the people of Manipur is the highest priority of the Government. The Indian Government remains fully committed to strengthening harmony, ensuring security and supporting Manipur in its journey toward stability and prosperity. Also the Government is committed to promote equitable development across the State and will ensure that the fruits of development and progress reaches each corner of the State, she added.
The President further said that the people of Manipur are talented and harwarding and expressed hopefulness that the people from the valley and hill will remain together with renewed harmony and take the State to great heights of prosperity and happiness. The President further urged the people of Manipur to continue supporting measures for harmony and development.
As part of the function, the President was gifted the Moirang Phee and a painting of Sagol Kangjei by the Governor of Manipur- Ajay Kumar Bhalla. The Moirang Phee is a famous hand-woven textile from Manipur known for its distinctive border design. Later the President witnessed cultural programmes.
Earlier, the President visited the historic Imphal Polo Ground also known as Mapal Kangjeibung and witnessed a polo exhibition match. She also met and interacted with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Raj Bhavan, Imphal.
The President will participate in the observation of Nupi Lal Day 2025 and will pay floral tribute to the brave women of Manipur at Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal. Later, she will visit Senapati district and will lay foundation stones projects while inaugurating some projects taken up in the district.
