President Murmu Calls for Strengthening India’s Cultural Identity

President Droupadi Murmu has emphasised the need for collective efforts to strengthen India’s identity as a cultural power, alongside its growing stature as an economic power. Speaking at the award ceremony of the 64th National Exhibition of Art, organised by Lalit Kala Akademi, in New Delhi today, the President said, art is a powerful medium to enrich cultural heritage and make society more sensitive. She highlighted that Indian art is continuously evolving and presenting new dimensions.
 
President Murmu expressed her happiness that the Lalit Kala Akademi is promoting the sale of artworks by artists this year. She said that this will provide financial support to artists and strengthen the country’s creative economy. The President added that getting fair value for their artworks will encourage not only the artists themselves but also those who wish to pursue art as a profession.
 
In his address, Union Minister for Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said, art and creativity reflect the identity of a nation, and they connect to the diverse languages, traditions, and generations. He said, when art becomes a part of the homes, schools, institutions and public spaces, only then does it become an integral part of the national consciousness. Mr Shekhawat said, When we support art and artists, we certainly strengthen the national spirit.
 
Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Vivek Agrawal, and Vice Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi, Dr Nand Lal Thakur, were present on the occasion.
