President Droupadi Murmu today applauded AIIMS Deoghar for adopting 5 tribal villages for ensuring better primary healthcare and medical facilities to the people of those villages within six years of its establishment. President Murmu was present as the Chief Guest for the first Convocation Ceremony of AIIMS Deoghar held today in Deoghar district of Jharkhand. The President also congratulated AIIMS Deoghar for being established as the Centre of Competence for Tribal Health. She also praised the contribution made by the institution towards providing better health care advisory and delivery of medicines through drones to tribal people in remote locations. She said that the institute has set an example for others to follow.
Felicitating the gold medal winners and toppers in academics of the institution, President Murmu expressed her pleasure that more than 50 percent of the recipients of the awards were female. On the occasion she said that it is a matter of pride for seeing many girls taking up the medical profession and emerge as good doctors. She also congratulated the institution for equalising the male-female student ratio in AIIMS Deoghar. Later, President Droupadi Murmu urged the medical fraternity to be clinical in diagnosis but not in behaviour and be sensitive towards people.
Focussing upon the Sustainable Development Goals, the President urged the students, faculties and related medical professionals to act in the direction of achieving the national and state level Health related SDGs within the given time frame. She also appreciated the efforts put in by AIIMS Deoghar in reduction of Neonatal Mortality Rate, Malnutrition in Children, Sickle Cell Anaemia and Thalassemia in the nearby areas. Speaking about the country’s achievement in cent percent elimination of KalaAzar disease as part of SDGs, President Droupadi Murmu urged the new doctors to become the change agents and flag bearers in achieving better healthcare facilities in the country with their significant contribution towards society.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation of AIIMS Deoghar on May 25, 2018, with an estimated cost of Rupees 1,103 crore. Later on July 12, 2022, PM Modi dedicated to the nation the inpatient department and operation theatre at AIIMS-Deoghar during a visit to the city.
Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari, Dipika Pandey Singh, Godda MP Nishikant Dubey, Union Health Secretary Nivedita Shukla Verma, Prof Dr N K Arora, Chairman, AIIMS Deoghar and Executive Director of AIIMS Dr Saurabh Varshney and other dignitaries were present on this occasion.
