President Droupadi Murmu visited Senapati district of Manipur today and inaugurated six different development projects implemented in the district. She also laid foundation stones for five other development projects for the district.
Among the inaugurated projects by the President includes a model residential school development at the cost of rupees twenty-five crores, two Primary Health Centres upgraded at rupees ten crores and two Bailey Bridges constructed at the cost of rupees eleven crores. The inaugurated and foundation-laid projects are in various areas, including girls and boys hostels, policing and public safety, healthcare, community and tribal, education and other.
After reaching Senapati district headquarters, the President met Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking shelter in relief camps and interacted with them. He also met and interacted with the leader of the Maram Tribe- the only tribe in Manipur under the category of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
Later, the President inaugurated and laid foundation stones of the project at a function held at the Multipurpose Hall in Senapati district. A short film on the Maram tribe- PM JANMAN initiative of the district was also shown in the function.
Addressing the gathering, President Droupadi Murmu said that under PM JANMAN, a series of initiatives have been launched for uplifting the tribal community, especially PVTGs, which will further improve the lives of PVTGs. She said that dignity, security and growth opportunities for the tribals of Manipur and ensuring their greater participation in the country’s progress a national priorities.
The Government of India is working closely with local leaders, civil society and communities to ensure the development is inclusive and sustainable, she said.
Speaking about Manipur, the President said that the strength of Manipur lies in its diversity, culture, languages and tradition. She said that the hill and valley of the State have always complemented each other like two sides of the same beautiful land and urged all communities living in Manipur to continue to support each other for peace and reconciliation.
The President said that the Government of India recognised the aspiration of the people of Manipur and urged all to work for the peace and prosperity of the State.
Smt. Murmu arrived in Imphal yesterday on a two-day visit to the State, and she also inaugurated and laid foundation stones of development projects worth rupees one thousand three hundred eighty seven at the Civic Reception held at City Convention Centre, Imphal, yesterday. She reached the Senapati district after paying floral tribute to the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal on the occasion of the 86th Nupi Lal Day 2025 this morning.
