Preparations for Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya gains momentum with issuance of notification for first phase

Preparations for the Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya have gained momentum with the issuance of notification for the first phase. There are only two Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya, one is Shillong and the other is Tura. Both the seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes. Voting in the state will be held in the first phase on 19 April.

 

In Meghalaya, election activities have intensified and the administration is busy finalizing the election preparations. Chief Electoral Officer Dr. B.D. R. Tiwari explained in detail about the election preparations being done on the Lok Sabha seats.

The Chief Electoral Officer informed that the work of distribution of voter identity cards with photos is in its final stages, while strict security arrangements are being made in the state. He said that tight security arrangements are being made in the non-fencing boarder areas of Meghalaya state. The Chief Electoral Officer also informed that a special voter awareness campaign is also being run to increase the voting percentage on Lok Sabha seats.
