Prayer meeting held in Delhi for veteran actor Dharmendra, leaders pay condolences

A prayer meeting was organised for veteran actor and former MP Dharmendra by his family in New Delhi today. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president J. P. Nadda, several Union Ministers, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Members of Parliament attended the prayer meeting and expressed condolences to the wife of Dharmendra and MP Hema Malini and daughters Esha and Ahana Deol. 

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said, Through his timeless performances, humble personality and strong sense of public service, Dharmendra touched the hearts of generations. He said the rich cinematic legacy of Dharmendra will continue to inspire people forever.

Paying tributes, Home Minister Amit Shah said Dharmendra entered the film industry at a time when there was not much money, nor the kind of luxury like today. He said, through sheer hard work and dedication, Dharmendra achieved that stature. Mr Shah highlighted that Dharmendra received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997 and the Padma Bhushan in 2012. The Home Minister said, Completing a 60-year career without a single blemish shows what a pure-hearted person he was.

BJP president J. P. Nadda said Dharmendra rose from a small village and, through his brilliant acting, won the hearts of millions. He said, besides his contributions to the film industry, he also served society and the nation as a BJP Member of Parliament. Mr Nadda said, despite huge success, the actor remained grounded and connected to his roots.
