In Chess, Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa ended his run of draws to take sole lead ahead of the final round of the Superbet Classic in Bucharest, Romania. He defeated Filipino-American Grandmaster Wesley So in the eighth round. Meanwhile, world champion D. Gukesh defeated Levon Aronian of the USA to end his winless streak in the tournament.
Both Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa won their respective games with the black pieces. Praggnanandhaa leads the leaderboard with five points, while Gukesh is in joint seventh place with 3.5 points. The ninth and final round will be played today.
The Superbet Classic features a 10-player single round-robin format with classical time controls and is the second leg of this year’s elite Grand Chess Tour.
