Poland to Shut Down Russia’s Last Consulate in Gdansk

Poland will close Russia’s last functioning consulate in Gdansk after a series of weekend attacks on key rail lines between Warsaw and Lublin. Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski announced the withdrawal of consent for the consulate’s operation, linking the move to what authorities describe as coordinated sabotage targeting strategic infrastructure. Tracks near Mika village, about 90 kilometres south of Warsaw, were blown up, while additional rail damage and a cut power line were discovered in the Lublin region.

Prosecutors have opened a terrorism-related investigation, saying the acts were carried out on behalf of a foreign intelligence service. Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk told parliament that investigators are pursuing two Ukrainians accused of working with Russian intelligence and fleeing to Belarus after the attacks.
