Residents of Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) continue to suffer from severe electricity shortages and prolonged load-shedding, despite hosting the multi-billion-rupee Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project. Former chairman of the Muzaffarabad Traders Association, Sardar Abdul Razaq Khan, voiced frustration, noting that the project, launched a few years ago, has been shut down due to technical failures.
Locals have demanded a transparent investigation into the project’s technical and financial mismanagement and called for an end to the chronic power outages that have disrupted daily life across the region. Residents also accuse Pakistan of exploiting Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir’s natural resources while denying its people basic rights and services.
