Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of major infrastructure and industrial development projects worth over 18,530 crore rupees in Assam today.
The first programme will take place in Darrang, where Mr Modi will lay the foundation stone of various projects. The projects include Darrang Medical College & Hospital and GNM School, and B.Sc. Nursing College, strengthening medical education and healthcare delivery in the region.
The foundation stone will also be laid for the Guwahati Ring Road Project to enhance urban mobility, decongest traffic, and improve connectivity in and around the capital city. Besides, the foundation stone will be laid for the Kuruwa-Narengi Bridge over the River Brahmaputra, improving connectivity and promoting socio-economic development in the region.
Thereafter, the Prime Minister will inaugurate Assam Bio-ethanol Private Limited at Numaligarh Refinery Plant at Golaghat, aimed at promoting clean energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. He will also lay the foundation stone of the Polypropylene Plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited, adding significant value to Assam’s petrochemical sector. It will also generate employment opportunities and lead to the overall socio-economic development of the region.
Last evening, Prime Minister Modi participated in the 100th birth Anniversary celebrations of Bharat Ratna and legendary singer-musician Dr. Bhupen Hazarika at Guwahati. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister asserted that Bhupen Hazarika’s songs continue to unite India and give energy to its people. Mr Modi said musical doyen’s creations encompass the concept of ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’. He remarked that the ideals Bhupen Da lived by and the experiences he went through are reflected in his songs. He said, the deep love for Mother India in Bhupen Da’s music stemmed from his lived commitment to the idea of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. He remarked Bhupen Da’s songs and voice continue to bear witness to India’s development journey and energise it.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the legendary singer-musician gave voice to a united Northeast during the height of violence in the region. He said the Bharat Ratna award to Bhupen Hazarika was an honour for the entire nation, especially the Northeastern region. He also stressed the importance of cultural connectivity in the development of the country. He said, rail and road connectivity is necessary for the economic development of the nation, but cultural connectivity is a must for the unity of the country. Mr Modi said the country’s development cannot be imagined without the progress of the Northeast. He added that the entire country is getting acquainted with the history and heritage of the Northeast as the Centre is emphasising cultural connectivity
On the occasion, the Prime Minister also unveiled a 100-rupee commemorative coin and released a biography of the music maestro in 21 languages.
