PM Modi Inaugurates 9th India Mobile Congress; Says Digital Connectivity is no Longer a Luxury

 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the ninth edition of the India Mobile Congress 2025, Asia’s largest telecom, media, and technology event at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. Addressing the gathering, Mr Modi said that the country’s success in the telecom sector reflects the strength of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision. He said the country, which once faced difficulties with 2G, now has 5G coverage in nearly every district. The Prime Minister said, digital connectivity in the country is no longer a privilege or a luxury but has become an integral part of every Indian’s life. He said, the India Mobile Congress event is not just limited to mobile and telecom but has become Asia’s biggest digital technology forum in a few years. 
 
 
The Prime Minister highlighted that the country has recently launched its Made in India 4G Stack, which is a major indigenous achievement for the country. Mr Modi said, this is the best time to invest, innovate and make in India. 
The Prime Minister said, country is emerging as an effective platform for innovation and progress. Mr Modi highlighted that India is now the world’s second-largest telecom market and the second-largest 5G market. 
 
 
Speaking on this occasion, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that India has now become the digital flag bearer of the world. He said, the country’s telecom revolution rests on four D’s – Democracy, Demography, Digital First and Delivery. Mr Scindia said the country has witnessed tremendous growth from sixty million internet broadband users in 2014 to 944 million broadband subscribers. The Minister said that 99.9 per cent of the country’s districts are now connected with 5G. He said, twenty countries across the globe are in active discussions to adopt country’s Digital Public Infrastructure model. He said, India is now home to 20 per cent of world’s mobile users. 
 
 
The four day event will showcase the latest advancements in telecom and emerging technologies, bringing together global leaders, policymakers, industry experts, and innovators. More than one lakh 50 thousand visitors from over 150 countries and more than four hundred companies are participating in the event. The event will focus on key themes including Optical Communications, Semiconductors in Telecom, Quantum Communications and 6G, reflecting India’s strategic priorities in next-generation connectivity. The theme of the event is Innovate to Transform, highlighting India’s commitment to leveraging innovation for digital transformation and societal progress.
