Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted aerial survey of the flood, landslide, and heavy rain-affected areas of Himachal Pradesh yesterday.
Prime Minister also held a meeting with the state government to review the damage caused by the natural disaster and assess the losses. On this occasion, Mr Modi announced financial assistance of fifteen hundred crore rupees for the flood and rain-affected regions of Himachal Pradesh.
Akashvani correspondent reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Himachal Pradesh today has brought a sense of relief and reassurance to the disaster-affected people.
By reaching ground zero, interacting with affected families, and motivating relief workers, the Prime Minister demonstrated a strong gesture of solidarity.
Assessing the scale of damage, the Prime Minister announced financial assistance of fifteen hundred crore rupees for relief and rehabilitation.
While meeting with the affected families Mr. Modi offered his condolences. He also announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees for the next of kin of the deceased and fifty thousand rupees for the injured.
The Prime Minister commended the relentless efforts of the NDRF, SDRF, the Army, and Aapda Mitra volunteers in rescue and relief operations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence has boosted the morale of both the administration and the rescue teams, while reassuring the people of Himachal Pradesh that they are not alone in this crisis and that the Union Government will stand firmly with them until Himachal fully recovers from this disaster.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced a financial assistance of 1,600 crore rupees for the flood affected Punjab in addition to 12,000 crore already in the state’s kitty. There will be advance release of the second instalment of State Disaster Relief Fund and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.
An ex-gratia of 2 lakh rupees to the next of kin of the deceased and 50,000 rupees to the seriously injured in the floods has also been announced.
After reaching Gurdaspur in Punjab to take stock of the flood situation, last evening, Prime Minister held a review meeting with senior officials on the extent of damage. He conducted an aerial survey of the area as well.
Akashvani correspondent reports, Before the review meeting, the Prime Minister interacted with some flood victims and farmers and shared their pain.
It has been learnt that on the demand of some farmers to deposit compensation into their bank accounts through Direct Transfer Scheme (DBT), he has promised to look into it.
Meanwhile, according to official sources 33 more villages have been impacted taking the total tally to 2097 villages across Punjab, affecting ovwr 3 lakh 88 thousand population.
With one more life lost, the number of those died has gone upto 52 across 15 districts as three persons continue to remain missing in Pathankot. Lakhs of hectares of crop area has been inundated and hundreds of livestock has been killed.
State government is making every possible effort to assist flood-affected people. Locals, social organizations, volunteers are also extending wholehearted support in this hour of crisis along with expert teams from Indian Army, NDRF and BSF.
