Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 22nd instalment of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi from Guwahati in Assam tomorrow. Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced this while addressing the media in New Delhi this morning. He noted that Prime Minister Modi will release 18,640 crore rupees through Direct Benefit Transfer to the bank accounts of around 9 crore 32 lakh farmers. He added that more than 4 lakh 9 thousand crore rupees have already been transferred to farmers under the scheme so far. Mr Chouhan said that with the release of the next instalment, the total amount will exceed 4 lakh 27 thousand crore rupees.
Mr Chouhan said that the total foodgrain production of the country has risen from 252 million tonnes in 2014 to about 357 million tonnes in 2025. He noted that horticulture has recorded remarkable growth, with production increasing from 277 million tonnes to around 369 million tonnes during the same period. He added the production and productivity of fruits and vegetables have also been rising steadily. The Minister highlighted that the government has also launched the first phase of an AI-based digital platform, Bharat Vistar, which will provide farmers with comprehensive information related to agricultural queries, including through phone calls in their own languages.
