Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth more than 40,000 crore rupees through video conferencing from Purnea district of Bihar. He will also address a public meeting at Sheesha Badi in Gulab Bag in Purnea this afternoon.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the newly built Purnea airport and start flight service from the airport. With this, domestic flight services from Purnea will commence to other parts of the country. Mr. Modi will also launch the National Makhana Board in Bihar. The Board will promote production and new technology development, strengthen post-harvest management, encourage value addition and processing, and facilitate market, export, and brand development-benefiting Makhana farmers across Bihar and the country.
Bihar contributes nearly 90 percent of the country’s total Makhana production, with Madhubani, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Saharsa, Katihar, Purnea, Supaul, Kishanganj, and Araria serving as the primary hubs. The establishment of the Board will significantly boost Makhana production and strengthen Bihar’s global presence in this sector. In the power sector, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of a 2,400 MW thermal power project at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur. Designed on ultra-supercritical, low-emission technology, the Pirpainti Power Plant represents Bihar’s largest private sector investment worth 25,000 crore rupees.
Mr. Modi will also lay the foundation stone of Phase One of the Kosi-Mechi Intra-State River Link Project worth over 2,680 crore rupees. The project includes canal upgrading, desilting, reconstruction of damaged structures, renovation of the settling basin, and increasing discharge capacity from 15,000 to 20,000 cusecs.
This will expand irrigation, strengthen flood control, and boost agricultural resilience in several districts of northeastern Bihar. In the rail sector, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple projects and flag off new trains. The Prime Minister will lay the foundation station rail line between Bikramshila and Katareah worth over 2,170 crore rupees, providing a direct rail link across the Ganga.
He will inaugurate a new rail line between Araria and Galgalia worth 4,410 crore rupees, connecting Araria and Kishanganj districts in Seemanchal. Flagging off trains in the Araria-Galgalia section, improving connectivity in northeastern Bihar.
The PM will flag off Vande Bharat Express between Jogbani and Danapur, benefiting districts including Araria, Purnea, Madhepura, Saharsa, Khagaria, Begusarai, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, and Patna. He will also flag off Amrit Bharat Express Trains between Saharsa-Chheharta (Amritsar) and Jogbani-Erode, offering better facilities, faster travel, and improved regional integration. For the agriculture and allied sectors, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Sex-Sorted Semen Facility at Purnea.
This state-of-the-art facility, established under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, is capable of producing five lakh sex-sorted semen doses annually. It is the first such facility in Eastern and Northeastern India, using indigenously developed technology launched in October 2024 under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. By enabling a higher chance of female calf births, the technology will help small and marginal farmers and landless labourers secure more cows, reduce economic stress, and increase incomes through enhanced dairy productivity.
Mr. Modi will also participate in Griha Pravesh ceremonies for 35,000 rural beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin, and hand over keys of completed homes to about 60,000 urban beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will distribute Community Investment Funds of around 500 crore rupees to Cluster Level Federations (CLFs) under Deendayal Upadhyaya Antyodaya Yojana- National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM ) in Bihar and hand over cheques to a few CLF Presidents as a token gesture. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and members of his cabinet will also remain present during the event.
