Prime Minister to Co-Chair AI Action Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris today, aimed at further strengthening India-France relations.

He will also engage in key bilateral discussions, where several important bilateral deals are also expected to be signed between India and France. He will also set to take part in the AI Action Summit today, where India is co-chairing with the objective of establishing global AI standards and promoting responsible AI development.

Akashvani’s correspondent reports that as artificial intelligence rapidly transforms our world-and raises concerns about privacy, bias, and job losses-the Prime Minister, along with other leaders, will deliberate on establishing global AI standards and promoting the responsible development of this technology.

A leaders’ declaration and the announcement of an AI foundation are expected at the summit. Both leaders will also co-chair the Indo-French CEOs Forum. Important bilateral deals, including defense agreements, are expected to be signed in line with the 2047 roadmap to boost ties between the two nations.

Later this evening, PM Modi will head to the historic city of Marseille, where he is scheduled to participate in multiple engagements with President Macron. Today’s packed agenda reflects India’s dynamic and forward-looking diplomacy. The Prime Minister’s engagements-from setting global standards for AI to sealing strategic partnerships-underscore India’s commitment to fostering a secure, innovative, and interconnected world.

The Prime Minister received a warm welcome upon his arrival in France, last night. Upon landing, he was greeted at the airport by France’s Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, while the Indian community in Paris gathered to offer their heartfelt greetings. Despite the chilly weather, the Indian community in Paris gave Prime Minister Modi a heartwarming welcome. The air was filled with Modi chants, vibrant tricolors, and enthusiastic slogans as the community gathered to celebrate his arrival.

The Prime Minister took to social media to express his gratitude and pride in the vibrant spirit of the diaspora. Later, he attended a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron for the leaders participating in the AI Summit. The Prime Minister also conversed with United States Vice President J D Vance during the event.

Following the engagements in France, the Prime Minister will embark on a two-day visit to the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump, departing from Marseille tomorrow.

The Second India-France AI Policy Round table was held on the sidelines of the AI Action Summit 2025. Organized by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, in partnership with the Indian Institute of Science, IndiaAI Mission, and Sciences Po Paris University, the event focused on global AI policy.

Principal Scientific Adviser Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood opened the round table by emphasizing India’s focus on responsible AI development, a robust techno-legal framework, and close collaboration on AI safety, research, and innovation. He stressed that aligning India’s and France’s policy positions would benefit the global community.

The discussions also covered digital public infrastructure for AI, the development of AI foundation models, and integrating AI to address global challenges. Speakers highlighted the need for democratized access to AI resources, sovereign AI models, ethical deployment, and globally accepted standards, along with issues like cross-border data flows and data sovereignty.

Collaboration between India and France was a major theme at the Roundtable, with opportunities identified in creating indigenous AI models, adopting balanced governance to minimize risks, and promoting sustainable, energy-efficient AI. Our Correspondent covering the event reports, the round table builds on the objectives of the first session held at IISc, Bengaluru, on 25th of last month, reinforcing the commitment to ethical and responsible AI.
