Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three-day visit to South Africa tomorrow to attend G20 summit in Johannesburg. Briefing the media in New Delhi today, Secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs Sudhakar Dalela said that this will be the Prime Minister’s fourth official visit to South Africa, following his bilateral visit in 2016 and later for the two BRICS summits in 2018 and 2023. Mr Dalela added that this is the first G20 summit that will be happening on African soil and in that context will bring the spotlight on the development issues of Africa. He said that on the sidelines of G20 summit, the Prime Minister will also attend India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) leaders meeting.
Prime Minister Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. Secretary ER said that the summit will be important for India for the continuity of its priorities after having hosted a successful presidency in 2023. He added that G20 has emerged as a premium forum for international economic cooperation, as well as for discussing matters of global significance.
Our correspondent reports that this will be the fourth consecutive G20 Summit held in the Global South. At the Summit, Prime Minister will put forth India’s perspectives on the G20 agenda. Prime Minister is expected to speak in all the three sessions of the Summit.
