PM Modi Praises Israeli PM Netanyahu, US President Trump for Leadership in Gaza Peace Efforts

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump on the success of the historic Gaza peace plan.

In a telephonic conversation held with Mr Netanyahu last night, Prime Minister Modi lauded the progress made under the initiative, particularly welcoming the agreement on the release of hostages and the provision of enhanced humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.

In a social media post, Prime Minister Modi shared details of his call with his friend Netanyahu, reaffirming India’s firm stance against terrorism. The Prime Minister emphasised that terrorism in any form or manifestation is unacceptable anywhere in the world.

In another post, Prime Minister Modi informed about his telephonic talk with President Trump. The Prime Minister said he congratulated Mr Trump on the success of the historic Gaza peace plan. The two leaders also reviewed the positive progress made in ongoing trade negotiations between India and the United States. Prime Minister Modi noted that both sides agreed to remain in close contact in the coming weeks, signalling continued cooperation on key global and bilateral issues.

The conversations highlight India’s active engagement in international peace efforts and its commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships.

Earlier yesterday, Mr Modi lauded the efforts of Trump and Netanyahu to end the hostilities in Gaza. He said, India welcomes the agreement on the first phase of President Trump’s peace plan, adding that this is also a reflection of the strong leadership of Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Prime Minister Modi hoped that the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza would bring respite to them and pave the way for lasting peace.

The US had announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed on the first phase of the Gaza peace plan. Under the peace plan, the hostilities in the Strip will end with the release of all the hostages held by Hamas and the demilitarisation of the Strip.

Israel had launched the war in Gaza after Hamas attacked Israeli cities on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 people as hostages. Over 50 of them are still in captivity.

According to Hamas-run health ministry of Gaza, Israeli military operations have killed over 66,000 Palestinians since October 2023. The situation in Gaza also figured in PM Modi’s talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Mumbai yesterday.
