Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded Home Minister Amit Shah for his speech yesterday in the Lok Sabha during the discussion on Election Reform.
In a social media post, the Prime Minister said that Mr Shah highlighted the diverse aspects of the nation’s electoral process and the strength of Indian democracy with concrete facts, exposing the alleged lies of the Opposition.
In his speech in the lower house, Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Constitution guarantees the Election Commission to prepare the electoral rolls, and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is its responsibility.
Refuting the accusations of opposition on SIR, Mr Shah alleged that the opposition, especially the Congress, has spread lies on the issue, tarnishing the image of the country, government and Election Commission. He called SIR as the purification of the electoral rolls and referenced the first electoral revision conducted in the year 1952 during the tenure of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
