Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the sudden demise of the former President of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi. In a social media post, Mr Modi noted that his death is not only an irreparable loss to Suriname but also to the global Indian diaspora. Recalling his meetings with Mr Santokhi, the Prime Minister said his tireless service for Suriname and efforts in strengthening India-Suriname relations were clearly reflected in their interactions. Further, Mr Modi mentioned that the Former president of Suriname had a special fondness for Indian culture and he won several hearts when he took oath in Sanskrit. Mr Modi also expressed condolences to his family and the people of Suriname in this hour of grief.
