Prime Minister Narendra Modi has criticised the TMC government for not maintaining the protocol during the visit of President Droupadi Murmu and abruptly changing the venue of the International Santal Conference held in West Bengal. In a social media post, Mr Modi said that the TMC Government has truly crossed all limits and their administration is responsible for this insult to the President. He said that the office of the President is above politics, and the sanctity of this office should always be respected.
Mr Modi said that the pain and anguish expressed by President Murmu, who herself hails from a tribal community, have caused immense sadness in the minds of the people of the country. He called the incident shameful and unprecedented and said that everyone who believes in democracy and the empowerment of tribal communities is disheartened. Mr Modi added that it is equally unfortunate that a subject as important as Santal culture is treated so casually by the West Bengal Government.
