Philippine House votes to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte

The Philippine House of Representatives has voted to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte over allegations of unexplained wealth, misuse of state funds and threatening President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. with assassination. In the voting held today, 255 lawmakers supported the impeachment, while 26 opposed it and nine abstained. The House, dominated by allies of President Marcos, has forwarded the impeachment complaints to the Senate, which will now convene as a tribunal to conduct the trial.

Ms Duterte, daughter of former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, has denied wrongdoing but has not responded in detail to the allegations. Last year, she also faced impeachment in the House but escaped trial after the Supreme Court dismissed the case on constitutional grounds.
