Parliamentary delegation from Portugal calls on Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, in Parliament House

A Parliamentary delegation from Portugal today called on the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Harivansh, in Parliament House in New Delhi. The delegation was led by the Vice President of the Portuguese Parliament, Marcos Perestrello de Vasconcellos. 
 
During the meeting, Mr Harivansh highlighted that relations between India and Portugal are rooted in deep friendship, mutual respect, shared democratic values, historical and maritime connections, and cultural and diaspora linkages. He recalled that 2025 marked the 50th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. He appreciated Portugal’s role in strengthening India’s engagement with the European Union, noting that Portugal hosted the first India-EU Summit in 2000 and the India-EU+27 Leaders’ Summit in Porto in 2021. He also referred to the 16th India-EU Summit co-chaired by former Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa, along with the President of the European Commission and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
