Parliament Adjourns Multiple Times Over Bihar Electoral Roll Revision, To Resume on 18th

The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha today faced multiple adjournments over the issue of Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. The Lok Sabha was adjourned three times while the Rajya Sabha two times before being finally adjourned for the day. Both the Houses will again meet on the 18th of this month. 
           
 
When the Lok Sabha assembled after the third adjournment at 4:30 PM, opposition parties trooped into the well, raising slogans over the SIR issue. The Presiding Officer urged the protesting members to go back to their seats saying that the SIR issue is under sub-judice in the Supreme Court. Amid din, the Lok Sabha has passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill 2025 which was referred to the Select Committee for further scrutiny by the House.
 
 
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the opposition MPs’ conduct for throwing paper towards the Chair. He said, this is against the decorum of the House. He said, the opposition MPs must participate in the discussion as the people of the country have sent them to take part in the discussion. The Presiding Officer expressed displeasure over the conduct of the protesting MPs saying that they are undermining the decorum of the House. Later, the Chair adjourned the House for the day. 
 
 
Earlier, when the House met after the second adjournment at 3 PM, the opposition parties created ruckus over the SIR issue. Amid din, the Lok Sabha passed the Indian Ports Bill, 2025. The Presiding Officer objected over the conduct of the opposition MPs and urged them to allow the House to function. Later the Chair adjourned the House till 4:30 PM.
When the Lok Sabha met after the first adjournment at 12 Noon, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced the constitution of a three member Committee to probe the allegations levelled against High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Varma.
 
 
After that, the Presiding Officer Sandhya Ray tried to run Zero Hour but the opposition members started sloganeering demanding discussion on Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll in Bihar. The Chair appealed to the opposition to allow the House to run but in vain. Amid din, the Chair adjourned the House till 3 PM.
 
 
When the Lok Sabha assembled at 11 AM, the opposition parties raised the issue of Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll in Bihar and demanded discussion on it. The Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla tried to run the Question Hour but the opposition members started sloganeering and continued with their protest following which, the Speaker adjourned the House till 12 Noon.
 
 
Similar scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha also. When the House met at 2 PM after the first adjournment, the Chair tried to take up the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025 for consideration and passing but the opposition members started sloganeering due to which the House was adjourned till 3 PM. When the House reassembled at 3 PM, the Rajya Sabha passed the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The House also approved the Income-Tax (No.2) Bill, 2025 and the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025. During the discussions, the opposition MPs staged a walk out from the House. 
 
 
Earlier, when the Rajya Sabha met at 11 AM, Deputy Chairman Harivansh tried to run the Zero Hour, but the opposition members raised the issue of Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll in Bihar and other matters. He said that he had received 21 adjournment notices from different political parties on four different issues, of which 11 are related to matters which are sub-judice. He said, as per the rules the matter which is sub-judice will not be taken up for discussion.
 
 
He repeatedly appealed to the protesting members to go back to their seats and allow the House to take up the Zero Hour. As the pandemonium continued, the Deputy Chairman adjourned the House till 2 PM.
