Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll issue today disrupted the proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament leading to multiple adjournments. The Lok Sabha was adjourned four times while the Rajya Sabha witnessed two adjournments before being finally adjourned for the day. When the Lok Sabha reassembled after the fourth adjournment at 5 PM, the Lok Sabha passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025. The bill was passed amid the noisy scene as the opposition members were protesting over the SIR issue. Speaker Om Birla urged the protesting members to participate in the discussion terming the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025 an important bill. After passing the bill with voice vote, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
Earlier, when the House met after the third adjournment at 3 PM, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla objected to the conduct of the protesting MPs saying that their behaviour is against the Parliamentary norms and decorum. He said, disrupting the proceedings of the House is not appropriate. Amidst the noisy scenes, the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025 were introduced in the Lok Sabha. These bills were introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Later, the House referred these bills to a Joint Committee of Parliament for further scrutiny. As the ruckus continued, the Speaker adjourned the House till 5 PM.
Earlier, when the House met after the second adjournment at 2 PM, Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved the motion to introduce the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The opposition member opposed the introduction of the bill. Amidst the noisy scene, the Chair adjourned the House till 3 PM.
Earlier, when the Lok Sabha assembled at 12 Noon after the first adjournment, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw introduced the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025 amidst opposition uproar. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju objected to the behaviour of opposition members for disrupting the House. He said, the opposition is creating disruption in the House from the last three days and not allowing special discussion on Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s achievement. He termed this unfortunate. The opposition members did not pay heed to the appeal of the Parliamentary Affairs Minister and continued with their protest, leading to adjournment of the House till 2 PM.
In the morning, when the Lok Sabha assembled at 11 AM, the opposition parties started a protest demanding discussion on the issue of SIR. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla expressed displeasure over the behaviour of the protesting members saying that disrupting the proceedings of the House is not appropriate. Despite the repeated appeal, the opposition members continued with their protest following which, the Speaker adjourned the House till 12 Noon.
Similar scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha also. When the Rajya Sabha assembled after the second adjournment at 2 PM, the opposition MPs started to protest over the issue of SIR. The Presiding Officer urged the protesting members to go back to their seats and allow the House to function. Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of SIR. Later the opposition MPs staged a walk out from the House. The House passed the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025. After completing this business, the House took up special mention in which MPs raised the issue of public importance. Afterwards, the House was adjourned for the day.
Earlier, when the House reassembled after the first adjournment at 12 Noon, the Chair tried to take up Question Hour but opposition members continued with their protest over the SIR issue. Amid the noisy scene, the chair adjourned the House till 2 PM.
In the morning, when the House met at 11 AM, Deputy Chairman Harivansh rejected the adjournment notices moved by the political parties relating to various issues. Following this the opposition members started sloganeering. Mr. Harivansh tried to run the Zero Hour saying that this business is for members and they can raise issues of public importance. As the pandemonium continued, the Deputy Chairman adjourned the House till 12 Noon.
