Pakistan: Landslide at Quetta Coal Mine Kills Two People

Two people were killed after a landslide struck a coal mine in the Sorranj area of Quetta, Pakistan, local media reported today. Workers were inside the mine when a mass of earth collapsed, burying them under the rubble. The Chief Mines Inspector has ordered the sealing of the mine and launched an inquiry into the incident.

Earlier in October, four coal miners were killed in two separate incidents in the Duki and Chamalang areas of Balochistan due to the presence of methane gas. Coal mines in Balochistan, operated by private firms under lease agreements, are known for hazardous working conditions and inadequate safety standards, with fatal accidents occurring frequently.
