A total of over eight crore 47 lakh farmer Identification Cards have been issued so far. The Government has set a target to generate Farmer IDs of eleven crore farmers in the country by 2026-27.
Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour in Rajya Sabha today, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that currently Farmer IDs are being generated in 19 states.
This includes Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Odisha and Telangana. He also informed that two crore 90 lakh farmers have been linked with Nation Crop Insurance Portal.
The Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the aim of the government’s agricultural policy is to focus on increasing farmers’ income, ensuring food security, and providing nutritious food to the common man.
He said, the government is working to boost food grain production, reduce input costs, provide fair and remunerative prices to farmers, and compensate crop losses. Mr Chouhan said that to promote agriculture, the Modi government is making extensive use of technology.
