A total of over seven lakh 86 kilometers of rural roads have been constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana till date. Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha today, Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan said, three lakh 46 thousand crore rupees have been spent to construct these rural roads. Mr Paswan said the monitoring of rural roads is conducted through a structured three-tier quality control mechanism to ensure construction quality and durability. He said, maintenance of these rural roads is the responsibility of the governments of States and Union Territories.
Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana was launched in 2000 to provide all-weather road connectivity to unconnected habitations in rural areas.
