Over 32 Lakh Divyang Beneficiaries Supported in 11 Years, Says Social Justice Minister

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar today highlighted that over the past eleven years, more than 32 lakh Divyang beneficiaries have been supported with modern assistive devices. Addressing the 53rd Foundation Day of Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India – ALIMCO in New Delhi, he said, this year’s Foundation Day marks a phase of new identity and new thinking, reflecting ALIMCO’s evolution into an innovation-driven institution. The Minister launched newly developed mobility devices and vehicles, including the three-wheeler scooter and clip-on wheelchair, aimed at enhancing independence and everyday mobility for Divyangjan and senior citizens. He also unveiled ALIMCO’s new logo, symbolising its shift toward modern design, improved finishing, and user-centric innovation.
The Minister recalled that a decade ago ALIMCO struggled with outdated machinery, declining product quality and limited innovation capacity. He said the government’s comprehensive modernisation support of over 325 crore rupees helped rebuild trust, expand manufacturing capability, and improve product quality, colour options and designs based on user needs. He noted that ALIMCO’s work has enabled beneficiaries to participate more confidently in daily activities, livelihoods, sports and community life.
Minister of State B.L. Verma said that ALIMCO celebrates a powerful legacy of service and social impact, and affirmed that under the Ministry’s leadership, the organisation will continue to deliver better, more advanced and inclusive assistive solutions. He emphasised the important role of persons with disabilities in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat.
