India Provides 300 Tonnes of Emergency Relief to Sri Lanka Under Operation Sagar Bandhu

Emergency relief of 300 metric tonnes was handed over to Sri Lanka under operation Sagar Bandhu. The relief material is part of 1000 tonnes that has been sent by Tamil Nadu. Another ship carrying 700 tonnes will reach Trincomalee tomorrow morning. The relief material primarily comprises essential food supplies including pulses and sugar. High Commissioner of India Santosh Jha handed over the relief material to Sri Lanka Minister of trade commerce and food security, Wasantha Samarasinghe. Mr. Samarasinghe thanked the Indian government and the Indian High Commission for the assistance provided to Sri Lanka. The island was hit by the cyclonic storm last week, resulting in floods that claimed 618 lives and severely damaged many livelihoods. Sri Lanka continues to receive international support as thousands remain displaced and widespread damage persists.
