One killed, four injured after fires at Habshan gas facility following interception debris

One person was killed and four others injured after two fires broke out at the Habshan gas facilities following falling debris from a successful air defence interception. The incident occurred amid heightened regional tensions, with air defence systems intercepting incoming projectiles earlier. Falling debris from the interception triggered two separate fires at the Habshan gas complex, prompting an immediate emergency response.

During the evacuation of the facility, one Egyptian national died, while four others sustained minor injuries. Significant damage was reported at parts of the facility, and a technical assessment is currently underway to determine the full extent of the impact and any operational implications. The Habshan Gas Processing Complex is one of the UAE’s largest and most strategic energy facilities, operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.

Located in the desert region of Habshan, the complex processes large volumes of natural gas from the onshore oil fields before transporting it to key export and domestic supply points, including Ruwais Industrial Complex. The facility plays a critical role in power generation, desalination, and industrial operations across the United Arab Emirates, making it a vital component of the country’s energy security infrastructure.
