Odisha Receives Record ₹10,928 Crore for Railways in Union Budget 2026-27

The Centre has allocated a record 10,928 crore rupees for the railway sector in Odisha in the Union Budget 2026-27. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw disclosed this today. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has earmarked 2.78 lakh crore rupees for Indian Railways in the Budget. Mr. Vaishnaw said railway projects worth about 90,659 crore rupees are underway in Odisha and with the fresh allocation, total railway investment in the state has crossed one lakh crore rupees.

He added that the proposed East-West Freight Corridor will pass through Odisha. The Railway Minister said Artificial Intelligence (AI) based thermal cameras will be installed along railway tracks to prevent elephant accidents. He also informed that 59 railway stations in Odisha are being redeveloped under the Amrit Station Scheme, with work completed at six stations so far. The Railway Minister said Odisha has achieved 100 percent electrification of railway tracks and now operates six pairs each of Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat Express trains.
