Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed the collectors of 17 districts to take proactive measures to prevent possible flooding, where heavy rainfall is likely to take place today. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast extremely heavy rainfall in Koraput, Malkangiri, and Kalahandi districts today. Several other districts, including Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara, are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The Chief Minister has instructed the Collectors to ensure round‑the‑clock monitoring through district and block control rooms, and to make arrangements to tackle emergencies such as floods and inundation in the affected districts. Civic authorities in urban areas have been asked to keep equipment and manpower ready to deal with waterlogging and related issues. The Fire Brigade and the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force have been placed on high alert to respond to flash floods and other emergency situations.
