North East Becomes Centre of Development: Minister Sonowal

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal said that, in recent years the North East has become a centre stage of development in the country. Addressing the media in New Delhi today, the Minister said that the region has seen a speedy growth across the sectors including connectivity and communication through various policies and programs implemented by the central government.  The Minister said that in the last 11 years, the region is recognized as Ashtalakshmi of India, reflecting India’s growth, connectivity and national pride. 
 
 
 
Mr Sonowal also noted the expansion of commercial airports, semiconductor, railways and others as key drivers of progress in the region. He mentioned the recently inaugurated Bhairabi- Sairang link along with seven others. He added that these railway links have completed and four capital connectivity rail projects across Nagaland, Manipur, Sikkim and Meghalaya are underway. The Minister highlighted that the peace and tranquillity of the region have unlocked the potential of the North East to become a favourable destination for investment.
