Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar today met Sri Lanka’s Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa in New Delhi.
During the meeting, the Finance Minister and Mr Premadasa discussed Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and ways to further deepen bilateral economic and investment ties.
Mr Premadasa thanked Nirmala Sitharaman for India’s consistent support to the people of Sri Lanka during times of crisis and throughout their growth journey.
On the other hand, Dr S Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s commitment to support progress and development in Sri Lanka. After meeting with Sri Lankan Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa, Dr Jaishankar said that both leaders discussed India-Sri Lanka relations and the Neighbourhood First policy.
NITI Aayog also hosted a delegation from Sri Lanka, led by Sajith Premadasa, in New Delhi. In his opening remarks, Mr Premadasa commended India’s transformative journey in the past 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He also expressed his interest in understanding the NITI Aayog’s role as a policy think tank to bridge long-term policy design with on-ground implementation.
In his address, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, Suman K. Bery, provided an overview of the country’s ongoing initiatives.
