In Tamil Nadu, nine migrant labourers died and many were injured when an under-construction arch collapsed and labourers fell from a scaffold near Ponneri at the Ennore BHEL Thermal power plant. The accident occurred last evening when the contractual workers hailing from Assam were on their job without wearing proper protective gear. The injured have been admitted to Stanley Government Hospital.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has announced 10 lakh rupees ex gratia to the families of the deceased in the accident. In a statement, he expressed condolences to the bereaved families and said that the arrangements will be made by the State Government to send the mortal remains of the labourers to their home town in Assam.
