Nine Fishermen Rescued After Boat Accident Off Kerala Coast

Nine fishermen who met with an accident about 80 nautical miles off the Kerala coast have been rescued by the Indian Coast Guard. The fishing boat, which had set out from Kanyakumari yesterday, reportedly met with the mishap nearly 80 nautical miles off Vizhinjam. Acting on information, the Coast Guard ship Anagh reached the spot and rescued nine fishermen.

Defence Ministry sources at Thiruvananthapuram stated that search operations are continuing for two more persons who are still missing. The rescued fishermen were brought ashore and given first aid before being shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram for further treatment.

Preliminary reports suggest that the accident occurred after the fishing boat collided with the merchant vessel MV Solis, which was travelling from Oman to Colombo. The Directorate General of Shipping has ordered an investigation into the incident.
