Nine fishermen from Andhra Pradesh return home after detention by Bangladesh

Officials accorded a grand welcome to nine fishermen from Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district who returned home safely after being detained by the Bangladesh Navy since October last year.  The Central and State governments’ special initiatives secured the release of the 9 fishermen from Bangladeshi custody.

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, K. Atchannaidu, who personally supervised all the stages of the process of release of the fishermen, thanked the Centre, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Ministry of External Affairs for diplomatic channels in securing the release of trapped fishermen.  The Fisheries Department officials, maintaining constant contact with the Indian Coast Guard and Bangladesh authorities, resolved the technical hurdles encountered in the release process.
