In Telangana, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has achieved a major milestone in kidney transplant surgery by completing 2,000 transplants, making it a leading institution in South India for the procedure.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy congratulated the NIMS medical team on the achievement, praising the Department of Urology for its skill and dedication.
With this milestone, NIMS now ranks third in the country in kidney transplants. Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre holds the top position, followed by Christian Medical College. The achievement is significant as 95 per cent of the patients — around 1,900 people — received free treatment under the state’s Aarogyasri scheme and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
NIMS has also set another record by performing 500 kidney transplants in just three years and four months since January 2023. The Chief Minister lauded the doctors for their exceptional service to patients suffering from kidney diseases.
