Nigeria has convicted 386 Islamist militants following a series of mass trials held this week in the capital, Abuja. Nigeria’s Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi, said more than 500 cases were heard at the Federal High Court. Of these, 386 suspects were convicted, eight discharged, two acquitted, and 112 cases adjourned to the next phase. He added that the next phase of the trials is expected to begin by the end of May. The trials, which began on Tuesday, are part of an ongoing judicial process launched in 2017 involving over 2,000 suspects linked to Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
