National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police and District Magistrate of Ghazipur over the reported death of a villager and injuries sustained by others in a police lathi charge on the 9th of this month.
According to media reports, a villager had died and some others sustained injuries in a police lathi charge while protesting against the installation of electricity poles. The commission has asked for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks. According to the media report, five police personnel have been placed under suspension after the incident.
