The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of Maharashtra over the reported death of four workers. Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports, the commission has sought a detailed report within two weeks.
It said that four workers died and two were injured after inhaling Nitrogen gas that leaked at a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit located in Boisar Industrial Estate of Tarapur in Palghar district of Maharashtra. It added that at the time of the incident, 36 workers were present. The Commission has observed that if the contents of the news report are true, it raises serious issues of violation of human rights.
