The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary and DGP of Gujarat over the reported death of a differently-abled RTI activist. Reportedly, the victim’s body was found in a canal on the 14th of this month after being abducted on the 12th from an area near his residence in Gujarat’s  Tharad district. Taking suo moto cognisance of a media report, the Commission has called for a detailed report within two weeks.

 

 

According to the media report, the victim had filed complaints with the authorities regarding alleged forged beneficiary documents and other irregularities by the local builders in the slum redevelopment project under the Public-Private Partnership scheme. The Commission observed that if the contents of the news report are found to be true, then it raises a serious issue of violation of human rights.
