NHAI Tightens RFP Norms to Boost Quality and Timely Execution of Highway Projects

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has tightened Request for Proposal (RFP) provisions to improve the quality and timely execution of highway projects. Key changes include stricter contractor qualification norms, clear definition of similar work to mean only completed full-fledged highway projects, and a ban on unauthorized subcontracting beyond permissible limits.

NHAI has informed that such violations will now be treated as undesirable practices and attract penalties. The NHAI has also prohibited bidders from submitting bid and performance securities sourced from third parties, ensuring financial accountability and transparency.

The move aims to ensure only competent contractors take up projects, improve oversight, and deliver better-quality national highways within set timelines.
