New Zealand crush Pakistan by 60 runs in ICC Champions Trophy Opener

In Cricket, the ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy kicked off with a bang as New Zealand thrashed defending champions Pakistan by a commanding 60 runs in Karachi last night. Opting to field after winning the toss, Pakistan struggled to contain the Kiwis, who posted a formidable total of 320 for 5 in their 50 overs. Tom Latham led the Kiwis with a brilliant 118, while Will Young made 107 runs. Glenn Phillips added a fiery 61 runs off just 39 balls, propelling New Zealand to amass 113 runs in the final 10 overs.

 

In response, Pakistan were bundled out for 260 runs in 47.2 overs. Babar Azam made 64 runs and and Khushdil Shah 69.

 

Skipper Mitchell Santner and William O’Rourke took three wickets each to help New Zealand secure the win. Tom Latham was adjudged as the player of the match. This also marked Pakistan’s fourth consecutive defeat to the Kiwis.

 

Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, will take on Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium this afternoon. The match will start at 2.30 PM, IST
