New York State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar condemned the mob killing of 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh, calling it part of a wider pattern of violence and persecution against religious minorities. Das was reportedly attacked, beaten, set on fire, and left on a highway; twelve suspects have been arrested.
Assemblywoman Rajkumar cited data from the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, which recorded 2,442 incidents of violence against minorities and over 150 temples vandalised from August 2024 to July 2025. She said the violence has created a climate of fear and insecurity for Bangladesh’s Hindu community.
The assemblywoman expressed solidarity with Hindus in Bangladesh and emphasised the need to protect human rights and religious freedom globally, noting that her Queens district has a large South Asian and Bangladeshi diaspora.
