The Nepali Congress will hold its Central General Convention on January 10-12, 2026. There were weeks of debate and signature campaigns happening in Nepali Congress to hold the General Convention after the Gen Z protest ousted the elected government. Several NC leaders were pitching in for special convention, if general convention was not feasible, for the Nepali Congress to go for March 5 General elections, according to whom the party needed a new leadership and new enthusiasm to go with contemporary changes.
Party spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat confirmed that the NC Central Committee meeting has decided to hold the Central General Convention in January and complete the distribution of active party membership by December 6. The renewal of active membership is to be completed by December 10, and all works related to new active members is to be finalized by December 23.
In the meeting that concluded on Monday, Nepali Congress has agreed to ensure inclusion and youth representation in the distribution of new active memberships. The convention of the liaison committees will be held by December 30, the village/town convention by December 31, and the provincial regional convention by January 3. Regional conventions and the convention of districts with a single constituency will be held by January 5. The district conventions of districts with more than one constituency are to take place by January 6, and the provincial conventions on January 7-8. The term of the Central Committee has been extended until mid-February, 2026 , which is set to end on December 9.
After the November 2022 elections, nepali Congress emerged as the largest party with 88 members in the House of Representatives and 16 members in the National Assembly.
