Nepal observes its 18th Republic Day today

The 18th Republic Day of Nepal was observed across the Himalayan nation by organising various events by the government, civil societies and the public. In a special program organised by the Republic Day Main Celebration Committee, chaired by PM K P Sharma Oli in the Army Pavilion Tundikhel, President Ramchandra Paudel attended the ceremony.
The President as the patron of the Constitution and the Supreme Commander of Nepal Army, received a guard of honour. Helicopter of Nepali Army carrying a banner of “Republic Day – 2082 BS” showered flowers in the air. Cultural dance performances like Lakhe and Khaichadi with traditional music played on Dhime and Dhaumati were enchanting.
In the celebration, Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal, Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh were present.
Digging into history, founder of Human Rights and Peace Society Nepal Krishna Pahadi talks about Nepal’s evolution as a democratic Republic as today marks the historic announcement of the federal democratic republic in Nepal, made by the first meeting of the popularly elected Constituent Assembly in 2008 which ended the 240-year-old monarchy.
